A Field Day on different rice establishment methods was conducted by DAATTC, Tornala at VadloorBegumpet Village of Bejjenki Mandal, Siddipet district on 01.11.2021. Field day on demonstration of dry sowing with seed drill, broadcasting and drum seeding in puddled field of rice cultivation practices by Sri. J. Vijay, DAATTC, Coordinator and Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Scientist (CP). Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Warangal chaired the event and addressed the gathering by highlighting about dry and wet direct seeded rice (DSR), probably the oldest method of crop establishment, is gaining popularity because of its low-input demand. It offers certain advantages viz., it saves labour, requires less water, less drudgery, early crop maturity, low production cost, better soil physical conditions for following crops and less methane emission, provides better option to be the best fit in different cropping systems. Comparative yields in DSR can be obtained by adopting various cultural practices viz., selection of suitable cultivars, proper sowing time, optimum seed rate, proper weed and water management. The host farmer Kukkala Ramesh and Thirupathigave feedback about the different rice establishments. He informed the house about water management practices and the different practices he followed under dry and wet condition of sowing. Following the field visit, there was a Scientist-farmer interaction session, where Dr. A. V. Ramanjaneyulu, Sr. Scientist & Head (Agronomy) addressed the gathering, reiterated the importance of growing more number of crops in making farmer becoming resilient to market, explained about the crop diversification in yasangi rice fallows with zero tillage maize and sunflower and irrigated dry conditions and also discussed on the weed management practices in yasangi growing crops like groundnut, greengram, sesamum, black gram, bengal gram, sunflower, safflower and castor. In the same forum, queries raised by farmer on timely availability of seed in yasangi alternate to paddy.The farmers were felicitated as part of their encouragement. In this programmeSandhya, MAO, AEOs, innovative farmers, gram sarpanch, RSS members and 52 members of the farmers have participated. Later, minikits of WGL-1119, 1246 and 1289 were visited by the team.
