Agricultural College, Polasa, Jagtial, organized World Soil Day - 2023 at its adopted village, Takkallapalli, Jagtial Mandal and District on 5th December, 2023 with the theme Soil and Water: A Source of Life. In this program, Dr. Bharati Narayan Bhat, Associate Dean, Mr. Hareendranath, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Jagtial, Dr. V. Gouri Shankar, Chairman, Village Adoption Committee, Dr. B. Sowjanya, Member, Village Adoption Committee, Shri Jaipal Reddy, Sarpanch, Takkallapalli, Shri. Dasarth Reddy, Market Committee Chairman, teaching faculty, PG and Final year students and 50 farmers have participated. Final year students held an awareness rally on "Save Soil" in the adopted village (Takkallapalli) as part of World Soil Day celebrations. On this occasion, Dr. Bharati Narayan Bhat, Associate Dean, Agricultural College, Jagtial urged the farmers to follow integrated nutrient management methods to maintain soil health and Mr. Hareendranath, Chief Manager, State Bank of India, Jagtial suggested the measures to be taken to improve soil health. Later, a technical session was organized on soil health and its management for the farmers. Dr. R. Sai Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Soil Science, stressed soil conservation and practices to be followed for soil health management. Dr. G. Venu Gopal, Dr. O. Sampath, Dr. N. Mahesh, and Dr. T. Yella Goud, Ms. Sushma Devi, Assistant Professors, participated and explained the importance of World Soil Day, the interpretation of soil health card results, crop residue management and crop diversification for soil health management and the usage of biofertilizers. Ms. A. Sandya, Agricultural Extension Officer, Takkallapalli, explained the effect of continuous use of chemical fertilizers on soil health and the use of organic manures. During the programme, soil health cards were distributed to the farmers. Later, a method demonstration on Trichoderma preparation was conducted. Later, Associate Dean and teaching staff distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners of the essay writing, drawing, and slogan contests organized in view of World Soil day in the College Auditorium.
