Agricultural College, Palem starts Vaanakaalam Agricultural Activities in Adopted Village

Agricultural College, Palem has adopted “Shainpally” village of Bijinapally mandal during May, 2019 to assist and support agricultural activities of the village through transfer of technology. During 2019-20, the village adoption committee has taken up various activities like conducting benchmark survey, organizing method demonstrations, trainings, scientist-farmer interaction meetings, diagnostic visits, etc., in the village. As the monsoon arrives, Agricultural College, Palem has geared up its Vaanakaalam agricultural activities in the adopted village. About hundred GPS tagged soil samples collected from various patches of agricultural fields in the village were analyzed for key soil parameters. On 17.06.2020, Dr.P.Ragu Rami Reddy, Associate Dean, along with the village adoption committee, visited Shainpally village and distributed soil health cards. He explained the soil status to the farmers and educated them regarding importance of judicious fertilizer usage. Farmers queried about use of different fertilizer combinations to which the team gave suitable suggestions along with fertilizer recommendations for all crops cultivated in the village. Shainpally farmers, who were initially unaware of the importance of green manure crops, have shown interest in growing Dhaincha after the awareness created by village adoption team. Associate Dean, along with the team, educated the farmers about the key role played by these low-cost crops in improving soil organic matter and curbing weeds. While, few farmers have already sown, it is estimated that green manure crops will be sown to an extent of 10 acres in the village during current season.
