The newly installed Agri Photovoltaic system was inaugurated here on wednesday, in the premises of the seed research and technology center(SRTC) at Rajendranagar. This new facility was inaugurated by the former vice chancellor of PJTSAU Dr V.Praveen Rao, and Registrar, PJTSAU Dr.S.Sudheerkumar. Agri Photovoltaic system (APV) is the simultaneous use of areas of land for both solar photovoltaic power (electricity) generation and agricultural crop production. The coexistence of solar panels and crops implies sharing of light between these two types of production. Agri voltaic facility may optimizing of crop yield, quality, and energy production. However, in some cases crop yield increases duto to the shade of the solar panels mitigating some of the stress on plants caused by high temperatures and UV damage. With erection of this photovoltaic system crop production may benefit from increased water savings by reduction in evapotranspiration and adverse effects of excessive radiation, while economic viability is increased and rural rural electrification is made possible by agrivoltaic. Dr R Jagadeeshwar, Director of Research, Ms. Lakshmi, of Renkube Pvt.ltd, Bengaluru Dr Avilkumar, Director, Water Technology Center, and university officers and students were participated in inaugural programme.
