AICSIP, Rabi Sorghum, ARS, Tandur, PJTSAU organized an Farmer Scientist Interaction meeting on Improved Management Practices under Rabi Sorghum millet in Vikarabad Dist. on 07-10-2023

On the occasion of 2023 as International Year of Millets (IYM) Agricultural Research Station (ARS), Tandur has organized farmer scientist interaction meeting on improved management practices in rabi sorghum at Hanmapoor (V), Peddemul (M), Vikarabad Dist. on 07-10-2023 under ICAR-IIMR frontline demonstrations on Popularization of improved technology to maximize production of rabi sorghum under rainfed conditions in coordination with Department of Agriculture. Dr. Shekar Kaluvala, Scientist Senior Scale (Agron.), AICRP on Rabi Sorghum has explained the importance of these outreach programmes on sorghum under which nutritional benefits of sorghum, current area and sorghum statistics were discussed along with main motto of 2023 as an International Year of Millets. Dr.K.Sujatha, Scientist Sr. Scale (GPBR), AICRP on Rabi Sorghum has explained to the farmers on measures to be taken especially selection of seed, varietal features of Tandur Jonna-1, importance of seed treatment, pest and disease management etc. Sri. Kaluvala Shekar has emphasized the adoption of improved management technologies to increase the productivity in the farmer's fields. He explained the importance of weed management and residual water management by compartmental bunding for higher grain and stover yield in sorghum and improved practices of wild boar management through solar fencing, HDPE Nylon nets. Alerted the farmers on pest & diseases in field crops along with measures. Under FLD's 50 bags of Improved sorghum variety Tandur Jonna-1 seed each of 4 kg along with information material on sorghum improved practices were distributed by the sorghum scheme scientists in presence of MD. Nazeer, MAO, Peddemul to the identified sorghum cultivating farmers of Hanmapur, Girmapur Villages of Peddemul Mandal. In this programme public representatives, AEO’s, print & electronic media personnel and practicing farmer participants were attended.
