- Agricultural Polytechnic , college , Jagtial in association with Regional Agricultural Research Station, Polasa, Jagtial organized Ambedkar Memorial Lecture on “Inspiring story of Mallikarjun Reddy, a software employee turned to an Innovative farmer” on 06.12.2021at RARS, Polasa, Jagtial.
- Sri. Mallikarjun Reddy , farmer from Kurmapally village, Choppadhandi Mnadal , Karimnagar Dist has set himself as a role model for farmers. The main factors that have contributed to his success are his interest and passion towards advanced technologies and guidance from his parents.
- He is a hard worker who was self-motivated to take up a new initiative for profitable agriculture and allowed other farmers to visit his field from surrounding villages.
- He is an example of a successful farmer and has proved that wonders can be done in agriculture if investments are made in the right direction and farmers are equipped with the latest knowledge.
- He shared the following improved agricultural practices followed in his farm
- The success model adopted by Mr. Mallikarjun Reddy was integrated organic farming. He has 4 cows whose dung and urine is converted into Jeeevamrutham, which is used as a fertilizer for the plants.
- He is converting the milk into ghee and selling at a cost of 3500/L. The Butter milk obtained was used for feed for cows and as spray for field which is used as for nitrogen fixing.
- He believes in value addition makes more income from agriculture.
- He is also planning to form an FPO and gathered 87 interested farmers for forming FPO.
- He installed mosquito nets, fans and insect repellants for the health safety of animals.
- He is also planning for Bamboo cultivation for the production of Ethanol and products for paper mill, Handloom industry.
- He is also doing Goatry and rearing 40 goats, by selling the 6 months aged goat , he is earning 1, 80,000 per year by selling 6000/- per each 6 months old aged goat.
- He also have poultry and getting brown layer eggs from the poultry . He is selling brown layer eggs each per Rs.15/- in cities.
- He never uses chemical fertilizers or pesticides; he follows only natural methods of agriculture from last three years, he noticed his crops getting better and developed an interest in continuation of integrated organic farming (Agriculture+Dairy) and he is also practicing application of Azolla in Paddy field and CVR method of application of (soil+palm oil)as adhesive for soil and he is also preparing natural farming inputs i.e. 3% silica gel on his own by mixing 16 litres deshi cow urine+4kg rice bran and by following repeated mixing for 10 days and using it by straining. It is recommended to mix 3L of silica gel in 100 lts of water for spray. It is used for preventing lodging and for good germination.
- He is raising sunflower and Groundnut in organic way for the purpose of cooking oil .
- He also practiced SRI method , Machine transplanting and Dry direct seeding method and followed Alternate wetting and drying method of water management in Paddy and getting higher yields.
- The innovative farmer also practicing Bio control method of pest management by trichocards.
- He is conducting awareness programmes on precautions to be taken while application of pesticides.
Honours :
- He was honoured with ICAR innovative farmer award and Rythunestham award.
- Apart from these honours , various public representatives , scientists , students and farmers visited his farm and inspired by the environmental friendly farming.
