ARS-DAATTC, Tandur, PJTSAU organized Field Day on Rabi Sorghum millet on the occasion of International Year of Millets (IYoM-2023) in Vikarabad Dist. on 16-02-2023

It’s a pride moment to India that United Nation's General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as International Year of Millets (IYoM-2023) upon resolution proposed by our country. On this occasion to create awareness on importance of millet based crop technologies in attaining food security, health and nutritional benefits Agricultural Research Station & DAATTC, Tandur has organized field day cum farmer scientist interaction meeting on improved technologies in rabi sorghum millet in Sri.M.Nagappa a successful practicing farmer of Belkatoor (V), Tandur (M), Vikarabad Dist. on 16-02-2023 under ICAR-IIMR frontline demonstrations on Popularization of improved technology to maximize production of rabi sorghum under rainfed conditions in coordination with Department of Agriculture. Sri. Kaluvala Shekar, Scientist (Agronomy) & Coordinator, In charge of AICRP on Rabi Sorghum Agronomy has organized and briefed about the importance of these outreach programmes on sorghum yield improvement, increasing demand of vale added products of millets under which nutritional benefits of sorghum, current area and sorghum statistics were discussed along with main motto of 2023 as an International Year of Millets. Dr.K.Sujatha, Scientist Sr. Scale (GPBR), AICRP on Rabi Sorghum has explained to the farmers on measures to be taken especially selection of seed, varietal features of Tandur Jonna-1, Dr. V.Sunitha, Scientist, AINP on Vertebrate Pest Management, Hyderabad has shown demonstrations on methods to manage wild boar, monkey menace to protect the crops in farmers fields. Smt. C. Yamuna, Scientist (Plant Protection) has explained importance of seed treatment, pest and disease management in crops. Agriculture Department Officials C. Rudramurthy, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Tandur, MAO, Tandur has emphasized farmers to adopt technologies suggested by scientists. Then under farmer scientist interaction meeting the queries raised by farmers were addressed by Scientists team. Later on a diagnostic field visit was conducted in farmer's sorgum field and remedial measures were suggested to the farmers on diagnosed problems. In these programmes public representatives, Sri. Madan mohan, Sarpanch, Belkatoor, MAO Smt. Rajitha, K. Srinivas, AEO, Belkatoor cluster, print & electronic media personnel and about 70 farmer participants were attended.
