Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar organized an exposure visit to farmers of adopted village to sericulture based village, Thummanapally, Huzurabad District and provided awareness on sericulture on 18th March, 2022. The local Sericultural Officer, Sri. Rashid welcomed all the dignitaries onto the dias and briefed the performance of the village over the years. Dr.Y.Praveen Kumar, Scientist-D, Central Silk Board, Mulugu, Siddipet presided over the meeting and provided awareness on the status of silkworm rearing over the locations, basics of silkworm rearing, cautions to be taken during the rearing of silkworms and exhibited the varieties of silks and their value. The District Horticulture and Sericultural Officer Sri. B.Srinivas addressed the gathering to move towards kitchen gardening by which pesticide residues free household vegetables and fruits can be grown themselves and can lead a healthy life. Dr. G. Usharani Scientist (Pl.Br.) enlightened the activities carried out in the adopted village Perkapally of Saidapur Mandal during the last three years and the implementation of technologies developed by PJTSAU and encouraged the farmers to make sericulture as a part of their living and add additional income to their livelihood. The Horticultural Officer, Smt. D. Manjuvani explained in detail all the available subsidies in the vegetables, fruit and orchard crops, oilpalm, etc. and also regarding the drip and sprinkler irrigation facilities for the farmers and encouraged them to go towards some part of their cultivation with fruits and vegetables. In an interaction session, farmers raised problems on various issues on which Dr.Y.Praveen Kumar responded and appreciated the efforts of Thummanapally village farmers and encouraged the ARS, Karimnagar adopted village, Perkapally farmers to turn towards sericulture and add gains to their income. Around 50 women farmers involved in sericulture and 50 progressive farmers along with 30 farmers from Adopted Village, Perkapally of Saidapur Mandal and local representatives have participated in the programme.
