Agricultural Research Station and D.A.A.T.T.C., Karimnagar organized “Save Soil” Campaign cum Awareness Programme on “Soil Health-Conservation” on the eve of World Earth Day on 22-04-2022 at Sthambampalli Village of Boinpalli Mandal in Rajanna Siricilla District. Dr. K. Madan Mohan Reddy, Scientist (TOT) welcomed dignitaries on to the dias and also welcomed the farmers to the programme. He has briefed the importance of soil health and conservation and said that if the soil is healthy, the crop will be healthy and the man will be healthy. In the same way, the farmers were informed that it is very important to know the nutrient content of the soil through frequent soil tests, noting that the soils, in addition to their natural nutrients, provide additional nutrients to the plants through the added organic and chemical fertilizers thus contributing to the crop yield. By this farmers can reduce unnecessary cost for fertilizer application and can also get high and sustainable yields while conserving the soil. After that the Agricultural Extension Officer, Smt. Deepika explained about the importance of World Earth Day. Then the Progressive farmer Sri Ram Reddy said that the protection of soil health is very important in present scenario and soil fertility has to be maintained by using organic manures but not using higher dosages of chemical fertilizers. After that MPTC Sri Upender said about using generous quantities of organic fertilizers and prescribed levels of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Highlighting about Health is Wealth, Sarpanch Jyothi Karunakar, advised to go for soil fertility tests for making Agriculture more profitable. Sri Puli Laxmipathi, Ex MPTC and Progressive Farmer said that fertility of the soil decreases in long run by usage of chemical fertilisers which there by reduces crop yield. He also mentioned about application of organic fertilisers, intercropping and crop rotation practices. Brahmakumari Rajeshwari said that soil is the main source of survival for many organisms and hence everyone must play a role for conservation of soil. RAWEP students explained about soil sample collection and benefits of Green manure crops. After that “Save Soil” rally was organized along with RAWEP students in the village by giving slogans to create awareness among the rural community. AEO – Smt.
