An awareness and training programme on oil palm, orchard crops and other vegetables cultivation under crop diversification and distribution of University released varieties and minikits was held at adopted village Perkapally of Saidapur Mandal on 11th Novemeber, 2021 as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav by Agricultural Research Station Karimnagar of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University. Dr.G. Usharani Scientist (Pl.Br.) and Adopted village incharge, welcomed the dignitaries on to the dias. Dr. G. Manjulatha, Principal Scientist (Agro.) and Head chaired the session and enlightened the immense need for crop diversification among the farmers and conceptualized integrated farming by including allied sectors of agriculture like horticulture, sericulture, fisheries, poultry in addition to agriculture to reap higher profits. Later, Smt. Manjuvani, Horticultural Officer of Chigurumamidi Mandal detailed the oilpalm, orchards and vegetable crops management and subsidies, procedural strategies for procurement of nurseries of oilpalm, chilli, tomatoes, brinjal seedlings, etc. and later clarified the queries posed by the farmers on various crops. Dr. G.Usharani Scientist (Pl.Br.) explained the package of practices of safflower and encouraged the farmers to include safflower as a rabi or contingent crop in their cropping system. University released varieties Safflower - ISF -764 and Groundnut - Kadiri 1812 (Lepakshi) and maize minikit of Maize Research Centre, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, DHM-182 was distributed to the farmers as a part of crop diversification. Proceeded for field diagnostic visit on groundnut and ridge gourd wherein weed management and downy mildew control measures in ridge gourd by spraying of Dithane M- 45 was recommended. The Village Sarpanch and around 50 farmers participated in the programme duly following the covid pandemic guidelines.
