Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar organized World Soil Day at Baddipally village of Kothapally mandal of Karimnagar district on December 5th, 2022

Professor Jayasankhar Telangana State Agricultural University in coordination with department of agriculture officers conducted World Soil Day 2022 with the theme ‘Soils: Where Food Begins’ on December 5th, 2022. The programme was organized at Rythu Vedika of Baddipally village of Kothapally mandal of Karimnagar district to create awareness on importance of soils and measures to protect the soils for future generations among the farming community. Dr. G. Usharani Scientist (Plant Breeding) of Agricultural Research Station, Karimnagar has sensitized the farmers about the essence of preserving soil for sustainability, adopting soil test based fertilizer recommendations, usage of farm yard manure, vermicompost, Trichoderma, Pseudomonas and neem based products instead of using more complex fertilizers and pesticides and also about the ill effects of crop residue burning and suggested to use multi crop shredder/rotary mulcher/rotavator for insitu incorporation of crop residues and to go for zero tillage Maize after paddy instead of burning paddy crop after harvest. She enlightened the farmers regarding the essence of preserving fertile top layer of the soil, importance of crop rotation, mulching, intercropping, crop rotation, sowing across the slope, growing green manures before the main crop, importance of biofertilizers to solubilise the excess unsoluble nutrients, incorporation of organic manures, crop residues management for enhancement of soil fertility status, methods of composting by using all the agricultural waste. Later, Smt. V.Aravinda, Agricultural Officer, Soil Testing Laboratory, Karimnagar has detailed the farmers on importance of Soil testing for sustaining soil health and improving the crop productivity and the method of soil sample collection for soil analysis from farmer’s field. The Agricultural Extension Officer, Lalitha has briefed the farmers on the importance and usage of Phosphorus Solubilising Bacteria and demonstrated the soil sampling process for the farmers. The Village Sarpanch, Sri. Madhu, Upasarpanch, Sri Manoj and around 55 farmers including farmers from adopted village Nagulamalyal and Kondapur participated in the programme.
