Mango is the major fruit crop growing in Khammam Dist. Most of the mango orchards are in bearing and 20 years old. Present, in mango crop at flowering and fruit development stage. During flowering mango was infested with various pests like Mango hoppers, thrips, scales, leaf Webber, stem borer and diseases like anthracnose, powdery mildew. Along with these, oil palm is one of the important horticulture crops grown in Khammam district. Area of the oil palm increased, young orchards were infested with bud rot, Rhinoceros beetle infestation and rat damage. For creating awareness on identification of pest and control measures and integrated water and pest management in mango and oil palm, KVK Wyra Programme Coordinator, Dr. K. Ravi Kumar and Subject matter specialist in Horticulture Dr. V. Chaitanya were attended as resource persons to the awareness programme on mango, oil palm and mulberry cultivation at Lakshmipuram (V), Yerrupalem (M) which was conducted by Department of Horticulture and Sericulture, Khammam on 14.02.2025. In this Programme 48 horticulture progressive farmers, Horticulture department officials District Horticulture and Sericulture Officer, Khammam Sri Madhusudhan, Deputy director of Sericulture Ms. Muthyala Rao, Cluster level horticulture and Sericulture officer of Madhira division Sri. Vishnu were participated and interacted with farmers about the mango, oil palm and mulberry cultivation in Khammam district and diagnostic field visit to mango, oil palm fields and observed thrips, hoppers damage in mango and bud rot in oil palm.
