Awareness Programme on Millets organized as part of International Year of Millets (IYM-2023), at Agricultural College, Adilabad on 28.12.2023.

An Awareness programme on significance of millets was organized as a part of International Year of Millets (IYM-2023) to the BSc. (Hons.) Ag I year students, Agricultural College, Adilabad at classroom on 28.12.2023 F.N. At the outset, Dr. M. Suresh, Officer I/C Student Affairs (OISA) welcomed the students, guest speaker and briefed about the significance of IYM-2023 programme. It was followed by a guest lecture on “Mainstreaming Millets into food Systems as Smart Food-Leveraging IYM-2023”. The guest speaker was Dr. A. Poshadri, Subject Matter Specialist, Home Science, KVK, Adilabad. The lecture was an insight into millets that highlighted the need of millets in daily diet apart from processing, importance of value addition and nutritive value of some millet-based products. The speaker also emphasized on the impact studies on consumption of millet - based foods in adolescents and success stories of farmers on millet production carried out as a part of Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) in Adilabad. The guest lecture followed a fruitful interaction between students and guest speaker on millet crops. Later, on behalf of all the B.Sc (Hons.) I year students, Mr.Srinivas gave feedback on the programme and expressed his gratitude to the College authority for arranging an eye opening guest lecture on millets an apt topic in the present scenario to tackle the life style diseases. The programme ended with the vote of thanks presented by the Dr. M. Suresh, Officer In-charge of Student Affairs. Ag. College, Adilabad.
