Inaugural program report of Off Campus training program on Promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations In Horticulture Sector from 27th to 30th September, 2021 at EEI, Hyderabad

Extension Education Institute, Hyderabad today on 27th September, 2021 started four day Off Campus training program on “Promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations in Horticulture Sector”. This training program is for Horticulture officers of Karnataka Horticulture Department. Total thirty (30) Assistant Director of Horticulture cadre officers participated in this four day Off Campus training program. In Inaugural program, Dr.S.Chandrashekar, Professor, EEI Course coordinator of the training program and Dr. M. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Director, EEI participated. Dr.S.Chandrashekar, Professor, EEI briefly explained about the importance of the Farmers Producer Organization in Horticulture sector. He narrated the important topics included in the four days like Farmer Producer Organizations for Profitability – An Overview, Formation, Strengthening and Management of FPOs, Development of Business Plans for FPOs and Supply Chain Development for FPOs, Challenges and Strategies for Sustainability of FPOs. Promotion of Horticulture Entrepreneurship for FPOs, Digitalization and ICT application in FPOs in Horticulture, FPOs – Scope and Opportunity for Market Led Extension, Role of Financial Institutions for Promotion of FPOs and Case Studies/ Success Stories on FPOs in Horticulture and Extension Strategies to help farming Community through FPOs. Dr.M.Jagan Mohan Reddy, Director, EEI in his inaugural speech emphasised on the importance of training program. He advised all the participants pay attention to the each session and interact with experts to get clarification on FPOs. He told that FPOS are voice of the farmers and asked participant officers to establish and strengthen FPOs in their jurisdiction. He expressed that Horticulture products are perishable in nature and FPO can focus on value addition to improve the economics of farmers. He said that Horticulture Officers can play the facilitator role and link the farmers to market and oxygen to the FPOs in their working area. The Inaugural program ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr.S.Chandrashekar, Professor, EEI
