College of Agriculture, PJTSAU, Rajendranagar conducted Awareness Programme on “Kill the Cancer” on 21-9-2019

Cancer is the second biggest cause of death in India and the World. According to WHO every 6th person is dying of cancer. The burden of cancer doubled over the last 26 years. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, India had 14 lakh cancer patients and this number is expected to rise in future. But the good news is that about 30 to 50% of all cancers are preventable according to the release by WHO. This is possible by proper awareness and by following preventive measures. The awareness will surely educate the students on cancer and its causes, thereby equipping to safeguard themselves from this deadly disease. In association with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Kukatpally, Hyderabad as part of awareness campaign on cancer, an elocution competition was conducted in College of Agriculture, PJTSAU, Rajendranagar on 21-9-2019, by the NSS scheme of the College. The Associate Dean Dr. Seema chaired the programme. Dr. A. Manohar Rao, Member of Board of Management, PJTSAU was the chief guest. The Co-ordinator, ISKCON, Kukatpally; Mrs. Srivani attended the programme to represent ISKCON. Fifteen number of NSS Volunteers participated in the competition and won the certificates from ISKCON, Kukatpally. The participants spoke on the causes, prevention and cure of cancer and role of youth in spreading the awareness among the public and rural folk. The NSS Programme officer, Dr. B. Padmaja co-ordinated the programme. The faculty members, Dr. P. Laxminarayana, Dr. G. Padmaja, Dr. Neeraja Prabhakar, Dr. G.E.Ch Vidya Sagar, Dr. Ramesh Babu (OSA), Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy and other staff of the College participated in the event.
