College of Agriculture, NSS unit, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad organized “International Women’s Day” on 08.03.2023. Each year, on 8th , March is observed as International Women’s Day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women from all around the world. Gender inequality and discrimination are rampant in our societies, and most of the time, women are victims of them. To fight these gender biases and to bring attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women, International Women’s Day is celebrated. It has become a forum to raise awareness and galvanize change in society.
International Women’s Day Theme – 2023
The theme for this year’s Women’s Day, according to the United Nations is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” and it aims to emphasise the importance of technology in bringing gender issues to light. Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, in her message for this year’s International Women’s Day, said, This year, on International Women’s Day, I would like to applaud this new generation of young women – for their courage in speaking out, inspiring others and mobilizing their peers, for a more sustainable tomorrow.” To mark the day, NSS unit, College of Agriculture celebrated International Women’s Day in a grand manner at new academic block. Teaching, non-teaching staff and NSS P.O’s, students along with Associate Dean, AELP directors, HOD’s gathered at new academic block. Associate Dean stated that, Respect for woman is an integral part of the Indian culture and tradition. There is a very special position of women in an Indian society. From ancient days men did respect women. Women were given special privileges, hence we have to feel responsible to celebrate such glorious days. Associate Dean addressed the gathering regarding the importance of women and appreciated the hard-working nature and the achievements of women staff of College of Agriculture. Also stated that, in view of the digital revolution, there are several transformative opportunities for the empowerment of women and girls which need to be focussed. Students also recalled the significant contributions made by the women that has been changing the world and also the women role in their life as mother, sister and friend. At the end a vote of thanks was proposed by NSS P.O, and conveyed heartfelt thanks to the Government and University for declaring the Special casual leave to women on the eve of International Womens day.
