World Earth Day’ was celebrated at Agricultural College, Sircilla on 22.04.2022

The ‘World Earth Day’ was celebrated at Agricultural College, Sircilla on 22.04.2022. celebrations were conducted on various competitions like Elocution and Drawing to the students duly reflecting the topics like importance of soil, remedies for various kinds of soil degradation and novel practices for maintaining sustainable soil health. The committee members, i.e., Dr. CH. Ramesh, Associate Professor (AGRO), Dr. P. Madhavi, Asst. Prof. (SS&AC), Mr. J. Chiranjeevi, Asst. Prof. (ENGL) and Dr. T. Arunbabu, Asst. Prof. (AGRO) duly evaluated the competitions. Dr. T. Uma Maheswari, Associate Dean distributed certificates and prizes to the I and II prize winners. A video documentary on SAVE SOIL presented to all the students to create awareness on importance of soil and make them a part of the campaign run by Consciousplanet.org on SAVE SOIL. Agricultural College, Sircilla celebrated “World Earth Day” at adopted village Narsimhulapalle. Dr. K. Kanaka Durga, Professor (GPBR), Dr. R. Sathish, Asst. Prof. (ENTO) and Dr. M. Sampath Kumar, Asst. Prof (AEXT.) and Dr. M. Shanti, Professor (Soil Science) participated in the meeting. Dr. M. Shanti spoke to farmers about the need of celebrating the ‘Earth Day’ owing to the dependency of human life on the earth. Awareness was created amongst farmers on the importance of maintaining reserves of carbon in soil through addition of organic manures, green manure crops, biofertilizers for sustaining the productivity of the soils for future generations. The effect of inorganic fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides on soil microbes and the repercussions of low carbon status of soil were explained. The importance of use of organics in crop production was reiterated for better life on earth. Farmers participated in a discussion at the end of the program where they clarified their doubts on the sowing window of green manures, seed supply etc. All the students, teaching and non-teaching staff are actively participated in the programme.
