On the occasion of World Earth Day, village adoption committee of Agricultural College, Warangal conducted awareness programme on “Regenerative Agricultural Practices” and “Importance of the Soil” to the farmers at adopted village, Damera on 22.04.2022. World Earth Day is celebrated annually on 22nd April every year and the theme for 2022 is “Invest in our Planet”. Dr. G. Swathi, Asst. Prof addressed the gathering and briefed about the importance of the day and said that this day was first celebrated in the year 1970 when Senator Gaylord Nelson raised concerns regarding the degrading environmental conditions. She said that, World Earth Day is a reminder for the mankind to protect and safeguard the mother earth and its species, to make Earth a better place for the coming generations. She also told that this day aims to spread awareness and bring people together to protect the environment, which is undergoing rapid changes. Dr. J. Kamalakar, Assistant Professor (SSAC) has emphasized the role of farmers in preserving soil health and soil biodiversity by applying organic manures like vermicompost, green manure crops and crop rotation with legumes and advised farmers to follow farming practices that keeps up and maintains soil health for future generations. Smt. K. Swathi, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) told that farmers need to hasten the adoption of an environmentally friendly approach to farming known as regenerative agriculture. This approach calls for less ploughing, cover crops between seasons, more crop rotation and an end to burning crop residues. In this programme, village adoption committee members and 30 farmers participated.
