Organization of ‘World Earth Day’ at Gudur, an adopted village of College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar on 22-04-2022

An awareness programme on ‘World Earth Day’ was organized at Gudur, an adopted village of College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar on 22-04-2022 by the team of village adoption programme, Dr.A.V.Ramanjaneyulu, Associate Professor, (Agronomy), Dr.Y.S.Parameshwari, Assistant Professor, (Agronomy), Dr.K.Aruna, Assistant Professor (Agril. Extension), and Dr. I. Shakuntala Devi, Assistant Professor, (Agril. Economics). Mr.D.Vamshi, Isha Foundation save soil volunteer also accompanied the team. Further, Mr.Uppala Dayanand Gupta, Vice-Sarpanch, Sri.P.Gopal, A.O., Smt.Anitha, AEO, Dept. of Agriculture and 25 farmers from Gudur Village participated in this programme. At the outset Dr.I.Shakunthala Devi has welcomed all the farmers and officials for the programme and explained them about history and importance of ‘World Earth Day”. Later, Dr.A.V.Ramanjaneyulu informed the house that United Nations Organizations gave a clarion call to celebrate 22nd April, 2022 every year as “World Earth Day” in order to create awareness about environmental issues like climate change, global warming, faulty agricultural practices and chemicalization of Agriculture which are affecting our planet Earth. He advocated restricted use of plastics, inorganic fertilizers, plant protection chemicals but increased use of organic manurers, green manures, crop residue incorporation as a part of “Regenerative Agriculture”.He also suggested the farmers to grow climate resilient crops and varieties from the ensuing kharif season onwards and promised to extend need based advisory from time to time through various media. Further, Dr.Y.S.Parameshwari explained about ways and means to improve soil fertility through FYM, incorporation of green manure crops and vermi composting. Dr.K.Aruna explained about sources of getting information about farmer and environmental friendly practices. Dr.I.Shakunthala Devi explained about the ways to reduce the cost of cultivation and improvement of soil health for the benefit of present and future generations. Mr.D.Vamshi, Isha Foundation Volunteer explained about safeguarding the mother earth and save the soil from extinction and shown a video. Sri.P.Gopal, A.O., Dept. of Agriculture explained the cropping pattern and new technologies adopted due to PJTSAU and advancements in processing of agricultural products thus generating revenue for farmers in the village. At the end Smt. K. Anitha, AEO and Vice-sarpanch thanked the College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar for sharing the valuable insights.
