As part of NSS special camp, on 5th day College of Food Science and Technology, Rudrur has conducted a programme on “Demonstration of Food technologies and awareness on Food Nutrition” near Gram Panchayat in Ambam village on 12-12-2019. The programme was organized and attended by Er.G.Raiender, NSS Officer, Dr.T.V.N.Padmavathi, Mrs. P. SriLatha, Mrs. M. Prashanthi, Dr. Rohit, Dr. R. Jayaprakash Assistant Professors, CFST, Rudrur, non- teaching staff, villagers, people representatives and students. The students of different ELP modules like Cereals and pulses, fruits and vegetables and spices and condiments have demonstrated the preparation of Kichidi with millets, grape squash and sambar powder respectively. They also explained about nutritive values of Kichidi, importance of millets, their health benefits in human diet, preservation of fruits and vegetables. Stalls were organized and value added products like sesame laddu, oat nutria-bar, ragi malt, multi grain atta, grape and pineapple squash, mixed fruit jam, peanut powder, mutton masala, chicken masala, garlic pickle etc were sold to the villagers of Ambam village. Awareness was made on adulteration of food materials like jeera, milk, honey, chili powder, pepper, ghee etc and house hold tests to identify them. 50 g of dry garlic powder sample packets were distributed to the villagers. The programme was made successful as the teaching staff of CFST, Rudrur have explained the nutritive values, health benefits of all fruits and vegetables, millets-their importance to growing kids and women. They also clarified about the myths they believed, explained each and every doubts of women with patience and told the nutritive diet to be followed by various age groups.
