DAATTC, Tornala organized method demonstration on “Direct seeding in rice under puddled condition” on 15.07.2022

Method demonstration was organized on the direct seeding in rice under puddled condition by DAATTC, Tornala on 15.07.2022 at Tornala (V), Siddipet Rural (M) of Siddipet district in V. Raji Reddy farmer field. Sri. J. Vijay, discussed about wet direct seeded rice (WDSR), probably the oldest method of crop establishment, is gaining popularity because of its low-input demand. It offers certain advantages viz., it saves labour, requires less water, less drudgery, early crop maturity, low production cost, better soil physical conditions for following crops and less methane emission, provides better option to be the best fit in different cropping systems. Comparative yields in DSR can be obtained by adopting various cultural practices viz., selection of suitable cultivars, proper sowing time, optimum seed rate, proper weed and water management. The farmers have impounded water for one week by applying SSP and later leveled the field a day before. The seed was soaked for over 24 hrs by applying 36 gms of carbendazim in soaking water. After draining water for one day the seed is allowed to sprout and the sprouted seed was broadcasted in the leveled fields uniformly. Before broadcasting, channels were made by dragging a stone in gunny bag which allows to drain excess water and for easy carryout of field operations. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist explained about the fertilizer dosage and method of application in wet DSR condition. Dr. Ch. Pallavi, Scientist (Agronomy), DAATTC, Tornala recommended the farmer to spray pyrazosulfuran ethyl @ 80 gms per acre at 3-5 days to control weeds effectively. Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agronomy), ARS, Tornala explained about the pests and disease management in wet DSR to farmer.
