Extension Education Institute, Hyderabad celebrates National Mahila Kisan Diwas -2023 on October, 17 by organizing a webinar on Women as Change Agents to Steer the Rural Economy of the Nation: A Celebration of Mahila Kisan Diwas, 2023. The webinar had two lead sessions delivered by eminent professionals in the field of women, gender studies and entrepreneurship. During the inaugural of the webinar, the introductory remarks were given by Sri. Manish Bhatia, Director, Administration, Sri. S. M. Khalikar, Joint Director (Extension) and Dr. Punam Tiwari Sharma, Joint Director National Gender Resource Centre from Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India. Addressing the audience Sri. Manish Bhatia stressed on the theme of International Mahila Kisan Diwas which was to bridge the existing digital gaps in women empowerment and to achieve the vision of the honorable Prime Minister of India to achieve Women led Development by 2047. Sri. S. M. Khalikar spoke about the laudable achievements of women in India and gave a clarion call to emulate them in taking the nation forward. Dr. Punam Tiwari Sharma spoke about Gender mainstreaming and women inclusive community development. Earlier, the webinar started with a welcome note by Dr. M. Preethi, Professor, EEI, while Dr. M. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Director, EEI gave a brief about the webinar. Dr. Padmaja Ravula, Principal Scientist, ICRISAT, Telangana was the first lead speaker who spoke on Cultivating Change – Bridging socio – Economic and Technological gaps for Women in Rural India. Dr. Ravula gave a land scape of gender gaps, triple burden of women in India, rural - urban gender disparities and millet journey of women. Her session was well appreciated by the audience and was followed by interesting interaction. Ms. MahaLakshmi Sarvanan, Founder -Women Entrepreneurs India was the second lead speaker of the webinar who spoke on Rural Entrepreneurship in India: Women as Catalysts of Change. Ms. Sarvanan spoke on Rural Entreprenuership, its challenges, need for addressing the technological challenge, gaps in storage facilities, value addition, marketing and the needs to address them. Her session had numbers of questions posed by the participants and a fruitful discussion followed. To conclude, Dr. M. Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a very analytical concluding remarks followed by vote of thanks proposed by Dr. m. Preethi. The webinar was attended by 75 officers from different sectors from all the client states and UTs of EEI, Hyderabad.
