EEI, Hyderabad Organized training programme on ‘Farm Journalism for Effective Transfer of Technology

The farmers are information hungry and present public extension system is not able to meet the demand of the farmers for information. The farmer and extension worker ratio is widening. On the other side, communication tools development is enormous. Today, journalism in India has got lot of scope with media barons opening new channels or newspapers or publishing houses on a regular basis. The horizon of journalism has widened and it has transcended the limits of mere reporting of political as well as entertainment and economic news. The competition is so rife that each channel or newspaper tries to produce something exclusive, which in turn has given the audience a great deal of variety. Keeping in view of importance of Farm Journalism for Effective Transfer of Technology a 5 day On line programme was organized by EEI, Hyderabad from 21st to 26th February 2022 for the officers of different South Indian states. Dr. R. Vasantha, Professor, EEI, Hyderabad acted as Coordinator for the programme. 47 trainees from all South Indian states took part in the programme.
Skills imparted in the programme:
Writing radio scripts, delivering radio talks and developing audio jingles, writing Success stories and news articles, Photography, short film production skills in Mobiles, Identification of values and ethics in Journalism by administering psychological tests, dissemination of Agri and allied information to farmers using traditional media such as worli, cheriyal arts, folk lure such as Sodhi, chilaka josyam, Villupattu etc, Pest diagnostic skills using PLANTIX mobile app and production and dissemination of messages using PICVOICE, Talking Presentations, Infographic, Photocollage of CANVA and memes.
Major visible impact of 5 days training programme

  • Developed video films using softwares such as Filmorago.
  • Developed audio jingles on importance of tank silt
  • Script writing and delivery of radio talks on vertical gardening, crop insurance, tank silt etc
  • Sodhi script writing and delivery on fall army worm management, pest management in maize
  • Villupattu folk art on SRI cultivation
  • Produced and shared messages using PICVOICE, CANVA etc on departmental schemes, mustard cultivation, SRI, PPKP programme demonstrations, goat breeds, Integrated farming, marketing issues faced by farmers and solutions, paddy pest management etc

Speaking on the occasion of valedictory Dr. M. Jaganmohanreddy, Director, EEI  said that fram journalism is being manifested in many ways and right media has to be selected to convey timey information to the selected target group of farmers and appreciated the participants for their active involvement and development of several messages using softwares and mobile apps taught in the programme. He advised the trainees to develop many jingles and radio talks by recollecting the skills taught in the programme.
