Directorate of Extension

The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) extension services are mainly focused on following Frontline extension activities:

  • Technology Assessment and Refinement (TAR) through minikit testing / OFTs / OFDs / FLDs
  • Diagnostic filed visits
  • Capacity building of stakeholders
  • Dissemination of agricultural knowledge and information through kisan melas, farmer–scientist-interactions, publications, print and electronic media

Front line extension services are offered through the network of extension units spread across the State:

  • District Agricultural Advisory and Transfer of Technology Centers (9) (DAATTCs)
  • Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs)(8)
  • Agricultural Information and Communication Centre (AI&CC) and Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC)

  • Popularizing high yielding varieties/hybrids of crops Rice: Siddi (WGL-44), Sheetal (WGL-283), Telangana Sona (RNR-15048), Kunaram Sannalu (KNM-118), Bathukamma (JGL-18047) Ground nut: K-6 and K-9, Green gram: MGG-295, 347, 348,351, WGG-42 Red gram: WRG-65, PRG 176, ICPh 2740,MRG-1004
  • Producing and supplying quality seed of major crops grown in the State Popularising cost reduction technologies bud chip planting in turmeric and sugar cane, use of bio fertilizers and bio pesticides in rice, stem application in cotton
  • Popularizing different rice establishment techniques viz., aerobic rice, drum seeded rice and MSRI
  • Promoting soil test based fertilizer application through soil analysis and distributing the soil health cards
  • Promoting water saving, conservation and harvesting technologies in crops -Alternate wetting and drying, drum seeding, zero till cultivation, micro irrigation, mulching
  • Promoting Integrated Farming System
  • Promoting small farm mechanization and seed to seed mechanization in major crops, broad bed planter in soybean, seed cum ferti drill, drum seeder, mechanized transplanting in rice
  • Promoting farm pond technology for supplemental irrigation
  • Popularizing raised bed method of cultivation in turmeric and chillies
  • Developed a low cost and eco friendly stem applicator for sucking pest management in cotton crop and it is quite popular among the farmers
  • Promoting IPM, biological control, vertebrate pest management and safe use of pesticides technologies among the farmers
  • Imparting skills to rural youth and women in the areas of tailoring & embroidery, value addition through development vocational training programmes for self employment
  • Imparting skills to rural youth and supporting them in establishment of the bakery units & in becoming enterprenures
  • Providing real time agro advisories to farmers through Annapurna Krishi prasara seva services
  • Promoting and popularizing perennial fodder varieties like APBN-1, CO-3, CO-4 and suppling slips to farmers
  • Popularizing azolla production for improved quality milk production
  • Popularized the backyard poultry (Rajasri birds) in tribal villages in the district.
  • Popularizing Pangasius culture production in fish ponds in Khammam and Nalgonda districts
  • Promoting kitchen gardening and value addition to millets and soybean for better nutritional security in tribal areas through vocational training programmes
