Awareness programme on “Fall Army Worm management practices in Maize crop” was conducted by Village Adoption Programme team of scientists, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar in the farmer fields of Adopted village, Guduru, on 28-01-2023.Dr. S. Upendhar, Assoc. professor, Entomology has created awareness on Fall Army Worm infestation in maize crop. The scientist showed the symptoms of damage caused the worm and explained that young larvae consume leaf tissue from one side, leaving the opposite epidermal layer intact. The second or third instar, larvae begin to make holes in leaves, and eat from the edge of the leaves inward. Feeding in the whorl of corn often produces a characteristic row of perforations in the leaves (shot holes). Also explained the management practices to control fall army worm by timely application of chlorantraniliprole @0.4 ml/lit or Spinitorum @0.5ml/lit and mode of whorl application etc to the farmers. The awareness programme was conducted under the guidance of VAP Chairman and the Associate Dean Dr. C. Narendra Reddy, Convenor Dr. T. Ramesh, Sr. Professor and Head, Crop Physiology, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Adopted village team members, Dr. S. Upendhar, Dr. K. Shailaja and Dr. I Shakuntala Devi, Other participants included Village sarpanch Sri.Byagari Sataiah garu, ward members, Panchayat Secretary and farmers.
