Farmers’ Day Cum Farm Implements & Agricultural Inputs Distribution Programme organized by RARS, Warangal at Puligundam on 21-10-2021

Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Warangal in association with ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad organized “Farmers’ Day cum Farm Implements and Agricultural Inputs Distribution Programme” at Puligundam village of Mulugu mandal & district on 21-10-2021 under Tribal Sub Plan-2020-21. Hon’ble MLA, Mulugu, Smt. Seethakka is the chief guest and graced this programme. The officer-in-charge of Tribal Sub Plan Dr. U. Nagabhushanam, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) briefed about the main aims & objectives of the TSP and its implementation, advised the tribal farmers to raise alternate crops in ensuing Yasangi season. Hon’ble MLA, Smt. Seethakka expressed her gratitude towards RARS, Warangal for selecting the Puligundam and Jaggannapet villages for implementing TSP programme in this year, reiterated the importance of agriculture, urged the beneficiary farmers to make use this TSP programme efficiently, suggested to adopt new cost reduction technologies for empowering themselves. Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Warangal presided over the programme, explained about the importance of TSP, budget allocation, utilization of funds and suggested the importance of green manure crops particularly green gram preceding to Kharif rice for restoration of soil fertility for obtaining higher yields, to follow timely rendered agro advisory services from the scientists of RARS, Warangal. Later, Hon’ble MLA, Smt. Seethakka distributed farm implements and agricultural inputs viz., buradagorru, power sprayers, tarpaulins, herbicide, insecticides and fungicides to the tribal beneficiary farmers. Dr. R. Shravan Kumar, Scientist (Entomology) explained management practices for pests and diseases of rice and chilli crops in present scenario. Dr. K. Rajendra Prasad, Scientist (Plant Breeding) explained the importance of seed production at farmers’ level and different rice varieties. Assistant Director of Agriculture and Mandal Agricultural Officer, Mulugu were also participated in this programme. Farmers had expressed their happiness over the cultivation of green manure crop i.e. green gram preceding to rice in Vanakalam and also said that, it reduced nitrogen requirement and increased the fertility of soil and thanked for distributing the seed of green gram to them. Beneficiaries were happy with the given rice variety i.e., KNM-118 and said the crop is in good condition without any major pest problems and expecting good yields. The doubts raised on cultivation of alternate crops after rice, were clarified by Dr. R. Uma Reddy. Village President, Vice President, members of Adivasi Rythu Samkshema Sangam, progressive farmer Sri. Anji Reddy, beneficiary Tribal farmers were participated in this programme.
