Farmers-Scientists -Students interaction programme on “Suitable crops for rabi season and best management practices” by Agricultural Research Station and Agriculture Polytechnic, Tornala on 27-10-2022

Faculty of Agricultural Research Station and Agriculture Polytechnic along with second year diploma students of APT, Tornala conducted a Farmer-Scientist-Student interaction programme on “Suitable crops for rabi season and its management practices” on 27-10-2022 in Bussapur village, Siddipet rural mandal, Siddipet district. At the outset sstudents collected socio-economic information of 200 farmers and their choice of crops for the ensuing season. Excessive usage of fertilizers than the recommended doses was observed in almost all the kharif crops like rice, maize, cotton and vegetables, ultimately resulting in higher cost of production and lower net returns. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal Scientist & Head, ARS, Tornala discussed about alternate crops to rabi rice and suggested cultivation of crops like sunflower, maize and vegetables and their management practices. Farmers were sensitized regarding the higher fertilizer use and the ill effects thereby during interaction. Dr. N. Sainath, Scientist (SSAC), Dr. D. Swetha, Scientist (Agro.) and Mrs. A. Saritha, Scientist (Pl. Br.), ARS, Tornala and Mr. A. Sathish, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), APT, Tornala along with 42 second year students of APT Tornala, Sri K. Sadhashivareddy, Sarpanch, and farmers of Bussapur participated in this programme.
