Regional Agricultural Research Station, Warangal has organized one day farmer’s training programme on rice cultivation to tribal beneficiaries at Ankannagudem village of Mulugumandal under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) 2019-20 sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR-IIRR), Hyderabad on 29-09-2020. The meeting was chaired by Smt. Ch. Shyamala, Sarpanch, Ankannagudem. Dr. P. Jagan Mohan Rao, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Warangal has attended the programme and interacted with tribal farmers about present crop situation and enquired about the performance of seed supplied by RARS, Warangal. He stressed upon the importance of farm yard manure and green manuring in restoration of soil fertility. He also explained the objectives of TSP for empowerment of tribal people through this project. He advised the farmers to take up agricultural operations based on weather forecast and to follow suggestions of scientists of PJTSAU. Dr.S.Malathi, Principal Scientist (Entomology) advised the farmers to continue the cultivation of given varieties viz., Siddhi and Warangal Rice-1 in coming years also and explained about the pest management practices in rice. Dr. B. Satish Chandra, Scientist (Pl.Br.) in-charge of TSP briefed the programme and explained how to combat the present situation in rice with respect to disease management especially BLB, Blast and grain discolouration. Dr. U. Nagabhushanam, Senior Scientist (Agronomy) explained about fertilizer management in rice. Dr. R. Shravan Kumar, Scientist (Entomology) explained about the usage of pheromone traps for monitoring of stem borerin rice through demonstration and suggested control measures against stem borer, BPH and Whorl maggot. Sri K. Sripal, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Mulugu suggested the tribal farmers not to use any bio products in rice and advised farmers to follow recommendations made by scientists against pests and diseases. A total of 50 beneficiary farmers from Ankannagudem and Jaggannagudem villages attended the training programme. As adjunct to this programme field visit cum demonstration on installation of pheromone traps in the field was conducted and also distributed agricultural inputs viz., Insecticide, fungicide and pheromone traps to the tribal beneficiaries of the project.
