Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, College of Community Science, Department of Foods and Nutrition organised “Millet Marvel: Decades of Innovation and Advancement” as the closing ceremony of the International Year of Millets-2023 on 22nd December, 2023. The programme was graced by the key speaker Dr. Tara Satyavati, Director IIMR, who emphasized about the importance of inclusion of major as well as minor millets to diversify the diet to combat malnutrition & lifestyle disorders. Another key speaker, Dr. T. V. Hymavathi (Ret. Professor, Department of Foods and Nutrition) who enlighten about the future foods, smart foods and value chain for millets. She also emphasized on the diversification of the processing technologies for small millets. The registrar PJTSAU, Dr. M. Venakata Ramana, urged to change food habits and involve millets into the diet atleast 3 days in a week. The eminent former faculty of the department graced the function and talked about the novel processing technologies of millets developed by the department. The Dean of Community Science, Dr. V. Vijaya Lakshmi gave the welcome address. The millet processing and incubation centre launched their 12 healthy millet products such as instant idli mixes, designer bites, ragi noodles, multi millet malt and paediatric mix. Dr. T. Supraja, Head of the department presented the brief about research done in area of millets through six decades by the faculty and students. The winners of the millet cooking competition were awarded the prizes and cash prices. Dr. T. Sucharitadevi, University head proposed the vote of thanks. All the faculty and students participated in the programme. The national traders and nutri-cereals were sponsored the programme.
