Field day on “Direct seeded rice” in Adopted village of College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, Guduru on 17-11-2022

A field day was organised on “Direct seeded rice” by Village Adoption Programme team of scientists, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar in Atheli MallaReddy paddy field the Adopted village, Guduru, on 17-11-2022 to create awareness among farming community. The programme was conducted under the guidance of VAP Chairman and the Associate Dean Dr. C. Narendra Reddy emphasized the importance and advantages of DSR that it is labour saving, less drudgery, water saving and the crop maturing 7-10 days early than the regular rice growing method, also the cost of production being low all the farmers were asked to follow the DSR Technology. Convenor Dr. T. Ramesh, Sr. Professor and Head, Crop Physiology has suggested the farmers should be early adopters in using the updated technology and taking guidance from University and State Dept. officials. Dr. K. Sumalini from College of Agriculture Associate Professor (Genetics and Plant Breeding) has given brief insights about the importance of the programme and explained that for this broadcasting method of sowing, the characters of rice variety should be early emergency of seedling, culm should be strong, early duration varieties to be selected. Weed management is the major aspect in DSR which can be controlled at different stages and pre and post emergence weedicides are available. Also explained that in Telangana state medium and early duration varieties are suitable for broadcasting. Dr Y. Samatha Parameshwari, Department of Agronomy, has explained the crop management aspects right from sowing to harvesting stage in DSR. Dr.M.Venkateswara Reddy created awareness on vegetables crop like tomato, brinjal, onion and leafy vegetables and flower crops like marigold which will have a good demand and which can be grown during the rabi season. Mandal Agricultural Officer Sri. Gopal attended the training programme and has explained that all the farmers should take inspiration from Atheli MallaReddy who has followed University recommendations from time to time and adopted DSR. Adopted village team members Dr. K. Shailaja, Department of SSAC, Dr. K. Aruna, Department of Agricultural Extension, Dr. I Shakuntala Devi, Agricultural Economics, Guduru Village Deputy Sarpanch, Sri. Uppala Dayanand, AEO Mrs. K. Anitha of Agriculture department along with 50 farmers.
