Field day cum awareness program on “High Density Planting System (HDPS) in Cotton” by DAATTC , Tornala, Siddipet on 07-11-2022

An Field day cum awareness program on “High Density Planting System (HDPS) in Cotton” was organized by DAATTC at Agricultural Research Station, Tornala on 07-11-2022. Sri. J. Vijay, DAATTC Coordinator,Tornala welcomed the farmers and DAESI certificate holders of Siddipet and briefed about the techniques to be followed in high density cotton cultivation method to cotton growing farmers of Siddipet district and also said that at ARS, Tornala HDPS cotton demonstrations were taken up with a hybrid RCH-665 (90 cm x 20c cm) and variety of Adilabad ADB-39 (60 cm x 20c cm) with pneumatic planter, with this method of sowing plant population was more than 25000 per acre could be maintained and expecting about 10q of yields from hybrid and 8-9q/ac from variety under rain fed light soil conditions. Further he explained that the traditional cotton cultivation requires 3-4 pickings and requires more labour but in HDPS cotton cultivation requires one or two times of cotton picking because of spraining mepiquat chloride (Chamathkar) at interval of 45 to 50 days ,65 to 70 days and at 80 to 90 days and less labour. In this method the crop will be harvested by the end of November or first fortnight of December which helps to reduce the Pink Boll Worm incidence and facilitates a sequence crop. The Principal scientist & head Dr.S. Sridevi of ARS, Tornala, Explained about the action of mepiquat chloride which reduces the crop growth and intermodal length and also improves the supply of nutrients uptake mechanism to the plants and Dr. N. Sainath, Dr.D Swetha, also clarified the doubts of farmers on various aspects of this technology. Cotton growing 59 farmers of Bussapur, Thornala, Khajipur, Erravelli, Narsannapet, Doulthabad, Laxmidevipalli, Konadapaka of Siddipet district took part in the programme. In this programme DAESI certificate holders of siddipet district also participated.
