A Field Day was organized on “HDPS in cotton” by DAATTC, Warangal in association with RARS, Warangal and Nuziveedu Seeds Private Limited (Under Subeej- Corporate Social Responsibility) at Anantharam village, Geesukonda Mandal, Warangal District on 10-11-2021. Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Warangal, chaired the programme and addressed the farmers about the importance of cultivation of cotton by High Density Planting System (HDPS) in red soils. He emphasized that the cultivation of cotton by HDPS results in higher yields in red soil on par with black soil. HDPS in cotton is the best solution to get sustained and higher yields in rainfed cotton.Dr.B.Anil Kumar, Senior Scientist (Crop Protection), DAATTC, Warangal explained the farmers about the management of sucking pests of cotton by stem application technique and integrated pest management. He stressed the need for lowering the cost of cultivation and increasing the returns,Dr.B.Ram Prasad, Senior Scientist, Cotton Section, RARS, Warangal warned the increased infestation and damage of pink boll worm in cotton and suggested integrated pest management tactics of pink boll worm. Monitoring of pink boll worm and application of ovicides during its early infestation are the key factors in the successful management of pink bollworm. Sri.Y.Prashanth, Scientist, Cotton Section, RARS, Warangal informed the farmers that the plant density in HDPS is more than the traditional cultivation of cotton and the plant population will be from 25000 to 35000 as per the spacing unlike 15000 plants in the red soils. HDPS in cotton with the usage of Mepiquat Chloride, a plant growth regulator at regular intervals facilitates machine picking in the days to come. B.Narsimha Rao, a progressive farmer shared his experiences in the cultivation of cotton by HDPS and informed the house about the expected yield of 14 quintals per acre.Dr.E.Narsaiah, Coordinator, DAATTC, Warangal presented vote of thanks. The other scientists of RARS, Warangal interacted with farmers include Dr.N.Sandya Kishore, Dr.M.Madhu, Smt.Ashwini and Smt.Padmaja. Sri.Sarangam, NFSM Incharge, Sri.Hari Prasad, MAO, Geesukonda mandal, AEO Vijay Naik, Staff of Nuziveedu Seeds Private Limited viz., Ramchander Rao, Murali, Arun, Nagaraju and about 50 farmers from Anantharam and Dharmaram villages of Geesukonda mandal of Warangal district participated in the meeting.
