Field Day on Demonstration of Full Package Technology in Pigeonpea organized by AICRP on Pigeonpea, RARS, Warangal at Adopted village Meedikonda on 15.12.2022

Regional Agricultural Research Station, AICRP, Pigeonpea, Warangal organized field day on full package technology in Pigeonpea as part of front line demonstration technical programme for Vanakalam, 2022 at Adopted Village Meedikonda, Jangaon District on 15-12-2022. Dr. R. Uma Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Warangal, chaired the programme and emphasized the farmers on the importance of Pulses in our day to day life and urged the farmers should increase the cultivation of pigeonpea through as sole crop or as an intercrop with cotton/soybean and also cultivate on rice field bunds. Dr. Satheesh Naik SJ, Scientist (Plant breeding), IIPR, Kanpur, explained about different technologies developed like, ridge and furrow method of sowing, nipping practice, GA3 application during flowering, intercropping, cost of cultivation of pigeonpea compare with other crops like cotton. Later Dr. N. Sandhya kishore, Scientist (Plant breeding), informed the house that newly released red gram varieties from RARS, Warangal, PJTSAU i.e., mid early duration (WRGE-121, WRGE-97, WRGE-93) and medium (WRG-255) and their characters and also explained about importance for installation of bird perches and pheromone traps. Later Dr. M. Madhu, Scientist (Agronomy) & Officer-in charge, FLD explained about the agronomic management practices to be followed to get the higher yields. Dr. B. Anil Kumar (Sr. Scientist, Entomology, DAATTC, Warangal), briefed about new insecticides and fungicides available in market. Dr. D. Veeranna, Scientist (Entomology), briefed about pest management of maruca, helicoverpa, podfly in pigeonpea. Dr. G. Padmaja, Scientist (Pathology), emphasized on disease management in pigeonpea. Later FLD famers, Chiliveru Kiran J.Yakaiah, V.Srinivas has shared their experience with the fellow farmers on the Field day about the Front Line Demonstration taken up at Yakaiah field i.e. Red gram variety (WRGE-93). The programme was followed by field visit, during interaction all the queries were clarified and farmers expressed satisfaction over the crop performance and their willingness to take up the technologies in a big way. In this programme, 40 farmers from Meedikonda villages of Ghanpur mandal of Jangaon district were participated in the meeting.
