Joint Diagnostic Field visit was conducted by ARS and DAATTC Karimnagar constituting members Dr.E.Rajanikanth, Scientist (Agro.), Dr.G.Usharani, Scientist (Pl.Br.) and Dr.K.Madan Mohan Reddy, Scientist (TOT) on 21st December along with the Agricultural Department Officials visited the villages of Katnapally, Choppadandi, Deshaipet, Laxmipur, Thirumalapur of different Mandals of Karimnagar district for pest surveillance and recorded pests and disease problems in few crops. The scientists have observed that paddy fields were converted into ID (irrigated dry) conditions and taken up crops of Groundnut, Bengal gram, Black gram, Maize, Sunflower .The scientists have explained about the importance of diversification and cropping patterns. Prophylactic measures were informed to the farmers for the pest and disease incidence in the above crops. Also, the fields of farmers cultivating Anjeer and Dragon fruit were also monitored and their commercial exploitation, cost of cultivation, pest and disease problems, marketing facilities, etc. were discussed Those farmers whose fields are under the canals have taken up fine varieties of paddy as they don’t have any other option. Severe incidence of fall army worm was noticed in maize. Most of the farmers have been suggested to go for Sesamum after harvest of cotton and redgram in January. Need based suggestions pertaining to the pest and disease incidences among the crops were conveyed to the farmers.
