NSS unit of Agricultural College, Polasa, Jagtial has organized its fourth day special camp at Porandla Village, Jagtial Mandal on 18-10-2019. This special camp was focused on to make the village aware about the newly released varieties (Rice, Maize, Mustard & Sesamum etc) of PJTSAU; Soil Health Management; Honey Bees cultivation and production and Poshan Abhiyan. The Volunteers of the NSS also performed skits on malnutrition in children and the measures to be taken to overcome the problems and other activities like awareness on health and hygiene, communal harmony etc. Dr. S. Om Prakash, Scientist, RARS, Jagtial explained about the various pests and diseases occurring in the farmers fields and suitable recommendations for them. He has mainly given recommendations in the Maize, Turmeric, and Paddy etc. He also explained in detail about the cultivation of Honey Bees and its management practices for ensuring better income for the farmers. Dr. P. Madhukar, Scientist, RARS, Jagtial has given awareness on the newly released varieties of PJTSAU. He mainly emphasized on selection of seasonal based varieties and status of land for getting higher yields. He also said that farmers should go for diversified cropping systems for profits as well the soil health. Dr. M. Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Professor and NSS Programme Coordinator explained about the special camp. She has given awareness on commercial cultivation in fruit and flower crops. She added that poshan abhiyaan which focuses on reducing stunting, under-nutrition and anaemia in women and low birth rate. The programme main aim is to improve the nutritional status of Children from 0-6 years, Adolescent Girls, Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers in a time bond. Mr. A. Umarajasekhar, Assistant Professor and NSS Programme officer has given awareness on biofertilizers and its application for maintaining the soil health. Smt. Sandhya, Sarpanch & Smt. Sunitha, Vice Sarpanch has given speech on the importance of poshan abhiyan programme and explained about the different issues related to malnutrition in children. They are also more focused on women programmes and drudgery reduction technologies for agricultural operations. Further the students have played skits on the issues of malnutrition.
