Good agricultural practices for enhanced productivity and quality in Groundnut” was organized by RARS on 15-06-2023

One day Capacity building training programme on “Good agricultural practices for enhanced productivity and quality in Groundnut” was organized by RARS, Palem in collaboration with ICRISAT under RKVY project on “Groundnut value chain innovations to enhance farmer profitability and promote oil, food and confectionery industries in Telangana state” at KVK, Gaddipally, Suryapet district on 15-06-2023. A total of 170 farmers were attended the training programme. The programme was started with registration,later on Smt. K.Mamatha, Scientist (Agronomy), RARS, Palem invited the dignitaries onto the dias, namely Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem, Sri.D. Rama RaoNaik, District Agricultural Officer, Suryapet, Sri. B. Lava Kumar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Gaddipally and Dr.HariKishanSudini, Principal Scientist-Groundnut Pathology, ICRISAT, Hyderabad. The programme was started with lighting of lamp with dignitaries followed by PJTSAU song. The programme was chaired by Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director Research (Southern Telangana Zone), RARS, Palem gave welcome address and briefed about the training programme importance regarding groundnut cultivation in the state and country. Later Dr. V. Ram Reddy, Scientist(Plant Breeding), RARS, Palem gave presentation on selection of suitable varieties for Telangana, good agricultural practices and quality seed production in groundnut. Followed by Dr.HariKishanSudini, Principal Scientist-Groundnut Pathology, ICRISAT briefed about the scope of groundnut cultivation in India and world , causes of aflatoxincontamination and permissible limits for export in groundnut and also explained about Purdue Improved Crop Storage Bags-an efficient seed storage practice and value addition in groundnut. Later, K.Mamatha, Scientist (Agronomy), RARS, Palem explained about the mechanization in groundnut and also presented the video clippings on digger and thresher demonstration in groundnut.Dr. M. Shankar, Scientist (Ento.) presented the integrated pest and disease management in groundnut. Sri.D.Rama Rao Naik, DAO, Suryapet explained about departmental activities and on going programmes. Sri. B. Lava Kumar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Gaddipally explained about biocontrol agents and farm implements available at KVK, Gaddipally. After that, conducted farmer scientist interaction meeting, the farmers expressed their views on groundut crop cultivation especially labour and weed management, mechanization in groundnut, pests and disease problem, monkey menace ect. Finally, Smt. K.Sravanti, Scientist(Plant Breeding), RARS, Palem concluded with vote of thanks.
