College of Agriculture, NSS unit, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad is scheduled different day wise activities on the Iconic Week Celebration as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" under India@75 celebration from 09.08.2022 to 22.08.2022. During this period, the NSS Unit, College of Agriculture, through its various scheduled Programmes, has planned a series of celebratory events and activities to understand the roots of our democracy and spread democratic ethos among our student community to familiarise them with the patriotism. As a part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” Iconic week, 12th day (20.08.2022), the NSS unit College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar scheduled a programme on “Celebrating Wearing Handlooms” theme. This theme commemorates the Swadeshi Movement and to honour the handloom-weaving community of India and to highlight the contribution of the handloom sector to the socio-economic development of the country. India’s handloom sector represents our rich and varied cultural heritage. In the rural and semi-rural parts of the country, it is an important source of livelihood for many. The sector directly addresses women’s empowerment with over 70% of its total weavers and allied workers being female. To boycott foreign goods and rely on Indian-made products, encouraged the indigenous industries, particularly the handloom weavers, the special day was included under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. All the students dressed in Indian traditional dress Dhoti and shirt. The uniform dress code by students reverberates their love towrds traditional dresses. The celebration was witnessed by Dr. J. Satyanarayana, Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. C. Narendra Reddy, Associate Dean, Senior faculty, teaching and non-teaching staff, students attended the program.
