International Women's Day is celebrated on the 8th March of every year. It's the global day to honour the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and call to action for accelerating gender parity through breaking the rigid stereotypes and coming out as strong powerful women. On the eve of International Woman’s Day virtual seminar was organized at College of Community Science, PJTSAU, Hyderabad on 8.3.2021 from 11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Two guest speakers were invited for the programme. Since women’s day is rooted in raising awareness on the issues women face and advocating for gender parity, a topic on “Rights and laws related to women and role of an individual in promoting gender equity” was selected. Mrs. Hema Laltha, Advocate, High court Telangana provided insight on what are different constitutional provisions available for women, which are the areas women were mostly discriminated and how to come out from the gender biased stereotypes and attitudes, what is the role of individual and family in changing the ideologies and mind set of people in the society. Women’s day is also celebrated to observe the achievements of women in the society, Mrs. Hema Chandra Sekharan, Former and CEO of Engage 2 transform, Hyderabad, a successful Entreprenuer was invited to speak about How to be a successful woman based on her personal experiences. She enlightended the staff and students on what are the essential qualities required to an individual to become successful in both personal and professional life and how to enhance personal efficacy to deal with different challenging environments. Later an Interactive session between speakers and Staff and students was held to clarify the queries. After the interactive session, Dr. D. Ratna Kumari, Dean faculty of Community Science addressed on the roles and responsibilities of students and staff of Community Science in bringing the desirable changes in the community to promote gender equity. Dr. P. Sreedevi, OSA, College of Community Science coordinated the programme. A total of 115 staff and students participated in the programme with lot of enthusiasm.
