Women protection cell and NSS unit of Agricultural College, Warangal jointly celebrated International Women’s Day on 08.03.2022. The programme was started by Smt. Ch. Yashaswini, Chairman of women protection cell by inviting guests on to the dias. She said that it is a day where women are recognized and appreciated for all their hard work and dedication to achieve personal and professional goals. Dr. M. Balram, Associate Dean addressed the gathering and spoke about this day which is celebrated to honour all the astounding women in our lives and all the extraordinary women, history has witnessed. He said that, this day is particularly observed to acknowledge the achievements of women in various aspects of life and/or calling for gender parity. Chief Guest, Smt. N. Ramadevi Senior Manager (Retd.), Union Bank spoke on the challenges for girls students in present scenario. She said that International Women's Day (IWD) provides a useful opportunity to reinforce the fact that everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender-balanced world. On this occasion literary competitions i.e., essay writing, elocution and painting were conducted for the girl students by the women protection cell and NSS Programme Officers. The first and second prize winners were selected and prizes were distributed. All the women teaching and non-teaching staff were felicitated by gents staff. Purple, green and white are the colours of International Women’s Day. Purple is the color of loyalty, constancy to purpose and unswerving steadfastness to a cause. All the women staff and girl students wore purple colour dress on this day and expressed their happiness as it shows that they are joining other women across the world in solidarity to celebrate this special day which also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. G. Swathi, Asst. Prof. (Agril. Extn). A total of 140 staff and students participated in the programme with lot of enthusiasm.
