SeventhInternational Yoga Day was celebrated as “Yoga for Wellbeing”as a part of one week long activities at Agricultural College, Aswaraopet through virtual platform (Cisco webex) on 21-06-2020 between 7.00 AM to 8.15 AM. The programme was aimed to create awareness among the students about importance of yoga on human health.While addressing the faculty and students on this occasion Dr. M. Madhavi, the Associate Dean explained about initiation of International Yoga Day. She also added that first International Yoga Day was celebrated during the year 2015 at Rajpath with the participation of representatives from 84 nations. Madam reiterated that doing yoga is our ancient culture as it was found that Lord Shiva and Sages were the practitioners of yoga. The Associate Dean also stated that the art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual’s mind, body and soul and it brings both physical and mental soul together to achieve a peaceful body and mind and especially it helps to manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. Later Dr.V. Venkanna, Associate Professor, Dept. of GPBR and Dr. G.K.K. Murthy, Associate Professor, Dept. of GPBR explained the students about essentiality of yoga in daily life. NSS Program Officer Dr. Ram Prasad explained the students regarding increasing importance of yoga. Another NSS P.O. Smt. D. Sravanthi brought to the notice of audience that the theme of 2021 year International Yoga Day is “Yoga for health – Yoga at home”. Dr.P. Neelima, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Horticulture taken the role of trainer and and enlightened the students about fundamentals of yoga like gnana yoga, karma yoga, kriya yoga and bhakti yoga etc. Later she explained about how to practice yoga by performing various asanas. First she explained body loosening practices for warm up followed by few asanas for the benefit of faculty and students. She grabbed the attention of the gathering through her excellent presentation skills. The students felt rejuvenated and energized after practicing of yogaasanas. She reiterated that yoga bestows upon every aspirants the power to control body and mind. Further few of faculty and students have shared their thoughts towards yoga. Some of the students have shared videos to create awareness on International Yoga Day. About 150 students showed active participation in doing yoga with their family members. The programme was conducted by NSS units and made successful by participation of all the faculty and more than 150 students. At the end it was decided to organize Yoga sessions on every Saturday for the wellbeing of faculty and students and was concluded with the presentation of vote of thanks Dr. R.
