KVK, Adilabad - Field day on HDPS in Cotton on 28-10-2021

KVK Adilabad has conducted field day on University flagship programme - High Density Planting System in Bt Cotton with 200 farmers on 28.10.2021 at KVK instructional farm. Dr. V. Sudharani, Hon’ble Director of Extension, PJTSAU, Dr. P. Jaganmohan Rao, Director Seeds (SRTC), Hyderabad, Sri. Govardhan Yadav, REAC Member, PJTSAU, Dr. Y. Praveen Kumar, Programme Coordinator, KVK Adilabad, Dr. Sreedhar Chouhan, Principal Scientist and Head of ARS, Adilabad, Dr. Thirumal Rao, Principal Scientist Cotton, Representative of DAO Adilabad, Scientists of KVK and ARS and Nuziveedu seeds private limited employees participated in the programme. All the dignitaries on the dias explained about the concept of HDPS in cotton and its importance with relevance to crop diversification. This technology increases the plant population per acre and reducing the cost of cultivation using limited agricultural inputs. Farmers can terminate the crop by November first fortnight and can cultivate rabi crop under assured irrigation conditions. To show the potential of the technology and its desirable results KVK Adilabad has conducted field day on HDPS at instructional farm. All the participants visited the demonstration plot and interacted with the scientific community on possible outcomes.

Brief about the technology:
Particulars Details
Suitable Soils Light soils
Hybrid NCS -2778
Seed rate 3.6 kg / acre
Spacing 80x20 cm2
Fertilizer management 48:24:24 NPK kg/acre
Growth Regulators Mepiquat chloride 5% at 45 DAS with dosage of  1.5 ml/lit
60 DAS with dosage of  2ml/lit
75 DAS with dosage of  1.5 ml/lit (If no rain, spray is not required)

Farmer’s feedback:

  • Based on the present crop growth stage farmers are satisfied with High Density Planting System and expecting a yield in the range of 6 to 8 quintals per acre.
  • Farmers are satisfied with this hybrid and crop duration as it is suitable for poor and marginal soils of tribal villages.
  • HDPS cotton with short duration hybrid is suitable for farmers to terminate cotton in November first fortnight and to take up subsequent rabi crop under assured irrigated conditions.
  • Farmers are willing to adopt this technology in coming year with horizontal spread to adjacent farmers.
