On 14th November 2024, KVK Kampasagar organized a comprehensive Field Day on HDPS (High Density Planting System) Cotton at Chinnagudem village in Pedavoora mandal, Nalgonda district. The event attracted 114 farmers from the village, who were joined by a team of renowned agricultural scientists, seed company representatives, and technical experts. Dr. M. Venkataiah, ADR, RARS, Palem, engaged directly with farmers, emphasizing the benefits of adopting HDPS practices for higher productivity and profitability in cotton cultivation. Dr. G. Veeranna, Principal Scientist (Cotton), provided an in-depth discussion on the advanced HDPS and CS cotton technologies, highlighting the importance of selecting the right cotton varieties and maintaining appropriate protective measures during harvest, particularly recommending the use of full protective clothing to prevent exposure to pests. Dr. S. Srinivasa Rao, Programme Coordinator at KVK, Kampasagar, further reinforced the advantages of HDPS for improving yields and returns, advising on the correct use of growth regulators like mepiquat chloride and optimizing plant spacing to ensure healthy crop growth. In addition, experts like Dr. S. Omprakash (Entomologist) and Dr. A. Ramulamma (Plant Protection) addressed critical aspects of pest management, particularly focusing on the control of the pink bollworm, while Dr. D. Ashwini, Scientist (Pathology), provided valuable insights into disease management, identifying common cotton diseases and offering effective solutions. Dr. K. Chandrashekar, SMS (Crop Production), discussed nutrient and micronutrient management to enhance cotton yield, and Smt. S. Pallavi (SMS, Extension) explained the core principles of the HDPS cotton system. Seed company representatives from Nuziveedu, Rasi, Veda, Ajeet, and Crystal also participated, showcasing cotton varieties suitable for both HDPS and CS systems. During the event, special pest management advisories were shared, including strategies for controlling the pink bollworm and encouraging farmers to incorporate cotton residues into the soil post-harvest to improve soil health and reduce pest outbreaks. The field day provided farmers with a comprehensive understanding of modern cotton cultivation techniques, pest and disease management, and the latest innovations in cotton farming to help improve their productivity and income.
