As part of Parthenium Awareness Week, held from August 16 to August 22, KVK, Kampasagar carried out a series of activities focused on the eradication of Parthenium. During this week, visited adopted villages of KVK, collaborating with local residents to remove Parthenium from areas around the high school and primary health center and also removed Parthenium around KVK premises. On the final day of the programme, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. T. Ramprakash, Principal Scientist & Head of AICRP on Weed Management and Dr. B. Padmaja, Principal Scientist at AICRP on Weed Management. They explained about ill effects of parthenium on crops, livestock and human beings.. The weed also causes allergy, asthma, and skin allergies in human beings and reduces milk yield in cattle. It has allelopathic effect on other weeds and crops. They stressed that it should be eradicated at the younger stage and explained about the cultural, mechanical, chemical and biological methods. In addition to the removal efforts around KVK premises, also conducted awareness programmes in neighbouring villages of Tripuraram Mandal to educate the farmers about the effects of Parthenium and its eradication.
