Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhadradri Kothagudem has celebrated World Soil Day on 5th December, 2024 at Ramavaram Rythuvedika, Chunchupally Mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem District. In this programme Dr. V. Lakshmi Narayanamma, Programme Coordinator has addressed the gathering and explained that this year world soil day is conducted with theme “Caring for Soil: Measure, Monitor and Manage”. She explained the importance of green manure crops in improving the soil fertility, Crop rotation, Use of Biofertilizers, Biopesticides and neem-based formulations in maintaining the soil health and Measures to be taken to improve the fauna of beneficial insects etc. Dr. R. Srinivasa Rao, SMS (Crop Production) explained to farmers about the value of 2 cm soil layer for crop growth and also the causes for soil erosion. He has suggested farmers to follow ploughing, sowing across the slope, and making bunds at every 10-12 meters across the slope, growing of intercrops to cover the soil to reduce erosion. In this programme AO Rajeswari, AEO, Mamatha, SHG group CC and a total of 100 farmers and farmwomen were participated in the programme.
