KVK, Palem organized Parthenium awareness programme on 19-08-2021

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Palem has been organized Parthenium awareness program on 19.08.2021 at premises of agricultural college, Palem. In this program Dr. T. Ram prakash, Principal scientist (AICRP-Weed science) presented the biology of the parthenium weed, its dreadful effects on crop growth & humans. Parthenium mainly spreads through seeds. A single plant can produce about 5000 – 25000 seeds. The seeds are very small in size and light in weight. Briefed about the best management aspects like manual uprooting of Parthenium before flowering and seed setting is the most effective method. This is easily done when the soil is wet. Uprooting the weed after seed setting will increase the area of infestation. Pulling a plant in flower will aid in the dispersal of pollen grains, resulting in allergic reactions. Ploughing the weed in before the plants reach the flowering stage and establishing pastures or other plants may be effective. Dr.T. prabhakar Reddy (PC, KVK, Palem) stressed on the integarted approaches for effective management of parthenium weed in farmer fields as well as households. In this programme the staff of KVK, APT & RARS and 12 APT students were participated.
