KVK, Palem organized a Training programme on “Best management practices in HDPS Cotton” at KVK, Palem, Bijinepally Mandal, Nagarkurnool Dist. on 12.09.2024. Dr. M. Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Palem highlighted the importance of mechanization in upcoming technologies specially HDPS to combat the labour scarcity and increasing cotton production and productivity over the period of time and emphasized on impact of fluctuations in weather conditions on agriculture, cultivation of short duration cotton varieties so that farmers can cultivate Cotton followed by oil seeds or pulse crops. Sri.Purnachandra Reddy ADA, technical, Nagarkurnool highlighted the crop condition and rainfall pattern of the district. Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem made the opening remarks and explained about the technology, area sown particulars in various clusters of Nagarkurnool district and highlighted the complete information, package of practices of the HDPS technology and insisted the advantages of the technology over the normal sowing. Promotion of integrated crop management (ICM) aspects, insisted farmers to take up the spraying operations only pest incidence is above the ETL., gaps identified in farmers in implementing the technology during the visits. Dr. O. Shaila, SMS (PP) KVK, Palem briefed about all the Cotton growing areas cautioned to follow the IPM practices to overcome the incidence of boll rot due to continuous rains from last 20 days like drain out the field and spraying of need based chemicals and importance of cost reduction technologies in HDPS cotton. Mr. K. Ramakrishna, SMS(CP) KVK, Palem explained about weed management in cotton and agronomic practices. There was a farmers scientist interaction and clarified the farmers questionnaires. In this Training Dr. M.Malla Reddy, Associate Director of Research, RARS, Palem, Dr.T.Prabhakar Reddy, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Palem and all other staff, Department of Agriculture Officials, Private Seed company staff and 184 farmers from Bijinepally, Thimmajipet and Tadoor cluster were participated.
