KVK, Palem organized webinar on Good agricultural practices in Cotton on 28-05-2021

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Palem and Coromandel International Limited (CIL) jointly organized a virtual meeting with the innovative farmers on “Good agricultural practices in Cotton and crop seasonal conditions”. In this programme Dr. Subba Reddy, Vice president of CIL, briefed about the importance of organic & chemical fertilizers and their role in yield enhancement of Cotton. Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy, PC, KVK, Palem presented importance of integrated nutrients management in Cotton. Emphasized on excessive application of complex fertilizers and urea not only increase the cost of cultivation but also increases the pests & diseases in Cotton. Most of the farmers were not giving much importance on micronutrients though they required small quantity but they play significant role in yield enhancement. Mr. M. Rajashekhar (SMS-Plant protection) given presentation on promotion of integrated pest management (IPM) aspects, insisted farmers to take up the spraying operations only pest incidence is above the ETL. Due to the congenial weather conditions this year there may be possibility of incidence of sucking pests and Pink bollworm in all the Cotton growing areas cautioned farmers to follow the IPM practices like seed & soil treatment with bio-pesticides, stem application, installation of yellow, blue sticky traps and pheromone traps to monitor the pests. Need based application of nitrogenous fertilizers and conservation of natural enemies like spiders & predatory beetles. Farmers raised questions on micronutrients deficiency & sucking pests incidence in Cotton suggested suitable IPM practices and informed them all the IPM critical inputs are available at KVK, Palem. In this meeting Coromandel International Limited (CIL) members Mohan (Senior agronomist), Sai Prasad (Agronomist) and a total of 145 farmers & other input dealers were participated.
