KVK, Wyra - Natural farming training programme on 20.07.2024 at Kurnavalli

Natural Farming can be defined as “chemical- free farming and livestock based”. It can help agroecology and regenerative agriculture that lend support to soil rejuvenation. It can help improve yield, can increase farmer income, minimize cost of production, ensure better health, help in employment generation, eliminate the application of chemical inputs, environment conservation and reduce water consumption. It is based on the principles of biodiversity, soil regeneration and water conservation. Natural farming is the way of farming where “do-nothing” is underlined with benefit. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wyra organised one day training programme on 20.07.2024 regarding “Natural farming” at Kurnavalli (V), Thallada (M). The programme was attended by scientists, Dr. Jessie Suneetha, W, Dr. V. Chaitanya and Mrs. P. S. M. Phanisri along with Department officials and local farmers. The farmers were sensitized on need for natural farming and sustainable agricultural practice that relied on natural inputs and processes to improve soil health, crop yields and farmer livelihoods was discussed at length. Trichoderma and pseudomonas are organic biological agents used to control plant diseases. Trichoderma is a fungus that lives in soil and plant roots whereas Pseudomonas is a rod-shaped bacterium that lives in soil, plants, and water. Both organisms can help to produce antibiotics, cause nutrient competition, provide parasitic effects, enhance cell-wall degradation, release enzymes, help in induced plant resistance mechanisms, suppress plant diseases and degrade pollutants. Various studies have shown that combining trichoderma and pseudomonas can be particularly effective in combating root rot and wilt diseases in various crops as well as prevent 97% of infection. Trichoderma is mainly used to control soil-borne diseases as well as some leaf and panicle diseases. It can also promote plant growth, improve nutrient utilization efficiency, enhance plant resistance, and improve agrochemical pollution environments.
