A Lecture was organized in the College of Agriculture, PJTSAU, R'nagar on diabetes to mark the occasion of the world diabetes day on 12-11-2021

The world diabetes day is observed every November 14th all over the globe to commemorate the birthday of Frederick Banting who revolutionised the treatment of the disease with his invention of "Insulin" 1 00 years ago. "Access to the care" is the theme of this year 2021 and the first and foremost strategy to prevent the disease is through the patient education. This particular event is designed keeping the above theme in view. Dr. P. V. Rao, an ardent and and eminent endocrinologist and an alumnus of the prestigious AllMS, New Delhi,and who founded the department of diabetology in our NIMS HOSPITAL, Hyderabad and ran it for almost three decades as its head, has delivered the lecture which touched upon the crucial aspects of the disease and heightened the awareness of the attendees.He expounded the relationship between the field of agriculture and medical research and how plant sources became the source of medication. He advised students and scientists to pursue research with rigour and he wanted them to become entrepreneurs. He broke the myth about eating rice that most of the diabetics have and encouraged diabetic patients to reduce their overweight by 1 5% which would help immensely in combating the disease. The University officers, the Dean of Agriculture, the Dean of Student Affairs, Associate Dean, College of Agriculture have graced the occasion. The Inchage Medical Officer, Dr. K. Pavan Chandra Reddy and his Health Centre team have participated in the event. The event was also attended virtually from the all other stations of the university in the state.
