One day awareness programme on Intellectual Property (IP) was conducted to the faculty of PJTSAU at Ag Hub, PJTSAU on 20.01.2024 in collaboration with TSCOST sponsored by DST GoI. Dr.P.Jagan Mohan Rao, Director (Seeds) and Nodal Officer IP Cell PJTSAU Welcomed the Chief Guest -Director of Research , Guest Speakers and the participants and briefed about the background and objectives of the programme andappealed all the participants to actively participate through interaction and utlise the expertise of the speakers to give a thought process towards innovations in R & D and their commercialization. Later, inaugural address on IP awareness programme was given by Dr.P.Raghu Ram Reddy, Director of Research, PJTSAU. In his introductory remarks opined that though Scientists are successful in breeding many varieties in different crops but not succeeding in filing the patents and commercialization of technologies. He stressed that the training programme will open up new vistas in patenting and commercialization. He also emphasized that there is an urgent need to devise strategies to encourage patenting and tips for establishing a patent culturing in University. Our University has the potential to emerge apparent fore runner and we should all the scientist to strive for the creating innovation and set a path towards progressive commercialization of technologies. The first speaker, Dr. Ch.V.Durga Rani Ex-Director, IBT and University Head, Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding, PJTSAU, Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding has delivered lecture on “History and Different IPs”. She enlightened the participants on different IPs which is applicable for both Research & Development and University. Highlighted some of the vital aspects governing patent system and Patent Act. Second speaker, Dr. G.B. Reddy, Professor and Nodal Officer, IP cell, Osmania University, shared his vast experience and enlightened the participants in emerging IP Ecosystem in Universities. His lecture included starting from trademarks, label, design, copy rights including their pros and cons of usage. Legal issues involved in patenting and the means to overcome. He quoted several examples to agriculture and industry in patent filing. He inspired all the participants and urged that Scientist to compete with IIT s which have filed the maximum patents. Third speaker, Dr.Kalpana Sastry, Managing Director, Ag Hub, PJTSAU delivered lecture on “Building strong IP portfolios in RD”. Business incubators should be set up in University to support innovation and to provide guidance and to support the students and researchers so that they can commercialize patent ideas. Pointed to prior out research before Ph.D thesis submission for grants. Stressed to build and maintain strong IP portfolios with strategic and proactive approach. The awareness programme gave the participants the knowledge to maintain a streamlined portfolio and managerial procedures in order to keep ahead of compilation. Encouraged the participants on commercialization of patents which will ultimately aids in improving the ranking of University. A total of 40 faculty from Dept. of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Home Science and Agril. Engineering placed at Hyderabad were participated. The programme concluded with vote of thanks.
